Painting
July 2, 2018
This week has been really interesting!
The father of one of the members in the ward here is not member, and we passed by asked if there was anything we could do as a service. They said to come the next day to help paint the house. So we came and helped! I got to help paint a lot and my companion helped out a ton with the details. The member, Cindy, speaks English really well and her grammar is really good. It’s because she reads a lot in English. So the next day we passed by to visit the father, her dad. So we asked for a cup of water and he gave some really good papaya juice and we got to talking about the gospel. We saw that he knew quite a bit about the church and how it works. But when we asked about the simple principles like prophets, faith, or repentance, we came to a hard stop where he wouldn’t talk directly. Always diverting the questions. He had hardened his heart because he thought he knew everything, but doesn’t have the foundation of the gospel. I know the basic doctrine of the gospel is what inspires us to be better people. Sometimes we just get too cluttered up with the things that are plain to see and not important.

Another experience from this week is that Elder Echegaray and I went on a companionship exchange! We got to visit a Venezuelan family called the Torres Family. -they all talk super fast- Because of that, they are super fun! They are on they edge of their seat learning about the gospel. They have so many good questions! Although I didn’t even get to know them very well they gave us two a plate of Flan, but creamier and with more caramel sauce. Wow eating that after the visit was absolutely amazing.
In that companionship exchange, we visited with a brother named Hermano Zambrano. We discussed the importance of the sabbath day and why it is important to him. Half way through the lesson, I looked down at my bag/satchel (mochila in Spanish), and there is dog poop on it. Stunned thinking how it got on there, look at my shoe, and stuck to my shoe there is a large poo there. I took a deep breath and we finished the lesson. After the prayer, I asked for an apology, and explained my situation, carefully I stepped out back to where I could wash my mochila. We laughed it off afterward. How embarrassing! ¡Qué vergüenza!
Elder Echegaray is from Peru by the way.
One change that has happened in the mission is now we have half the time that we used to have to write our families. It is fine with me, now it is just like other missions. The norm 😀 It was good while it lasted. It is also cool how much emphasis our president is putting on sacrifice and obedience.
