Marcelo – baptism and proposal!

JANUARY 29, 2018

CAPILLA ABIERTA (Open Chapel, an Open house for the Church Building)

We carried big banners about the gospel to the chapel, set them all up and hung them up inside and outside and some members even printed some of the banners about articles of faith and stuff. We had the Capilla Abierta and quite a few non members came! We had 12 missionaries there teaching different parts and sections. We, Elder Chirinos and I showed what baptism is! Super fun, but also tiring presenting to such a large group of people for 2 and a half hours.

MARCELO GOT BAPTIZED! (and a proposal!)
This part is literally the best. The Capilla Abierta ended at 7:30 and at 8:00 we held the service on Saturday. We were running against the clock, because Jaime had been planning something really special there. Right after the baptism and the really sweet testimony of Marcelo, where which he shed some tears :,) We all headed straight for a member his lives close by. There, we all rushed inside. Inside stood a mariachi band tuning their instruments trying to be quiet. When Sandy and Marcelo entered. BOOM Mariachi music super loud and they sat down and there were many songs romantics songs. Afterwhich, Marcelo stood up took the microphone, gave the microphone to Jaime, Took out something from his coat pocket for a couple seconds, then took back the microphone, and proposed. I think the frase es “¿Quieres casarte conmigo?”  A pause, “Sí” BOOM They are planning to get married in two weeks I think.

ESTEFANIE

So an “amiga” ha nope “Novia”, Estefanie, de a member, called Jorge Luis, has been going to church and begging us for the lessons practically. So of course we went and taught her in the house of Familia Rodriguez because She lives really far away. But guess what!? We have permission to continue teaching her here because, we know if we tell her to go back to get taught over there, she wont get baptized because she has zero friends and her parents don’t want her to get baptized, but her grandparents do. Sooo yaa. But she has friends here. And wants to move here. Whew. Ok So this past Sunday she was saying, Hey when can we set a date for my baptism. No lets take a pause. During the lessons she asks the best questions that get us to think. Like “Why is the church true” Why is the Book of Mormon true. Stuff like that. Before things fall through, this week we are going to be working super hard to teach her well before baptism.

A PACKAGE OUT OF NOWHERE

The Dickson Family in my Home Ward Sent me a package via USPS, I think it was meant for Christmas but I got it yesterday 😀 Wow I am so grateful for them and that package. My companion sure like the stuff in there such as Pez and the Christmas candy. HE LOVES m&m’s! So wow, that came out of nowhere.

SPANISH STUFF
-Over here they use some words in English. Like “Full Perros” means A lot of dogs. Full has a bunch of meanings here.
-I am discovering parts of Spanish that are found in the scriptures that literally know one understands because it is conjugated weird. So I am learning something called Future Subjunctive.
-Many missionaries say, I can speak spanish, I can speak english, but
to translate spanish to english, I suffer. I don´t want that to happen
to me because many times, people here are like “Hey what is this in
English” If we don’t know, we can´t help. Welp. So I am always trying
to find connections and it deepens my understanding of spanish

-I am starting to get compliments on my Spanish, people think I have been over here for a year. But if they could hear what I hear, they would know that I still have a hard time understanding many of the things that are said. But I am super happy with the progress that the gift of tongues has given me!

Transfers are next week, everyone thinks many people in the zone are leaving because they have been here for more than 8 months more or less. Elder Tafur has been here for 7 months, and I have been here for 4 with him. 😀

Photos Next week of the baptism and proposal and everything! But here
are two of the capilla abierta!
