Arepas and a house goes camping
February 26, 2018
FAMILY GALINDEZ
Within this family, there are Reina(member), Jessica, and Mariuxi y Abraham(member) who have a son, Mathias. Their house has been flooded through the concrete roof, which is practically a sponge when in rains hard. So I put myself to think about how I can help them out. For really cheap I got a giant plastic sheet used for painting, and we laid that on their roof and held it down with rocks we found in the street! So now, after many weeks of rain and more rain, when it rains again this next month, they will be able to have a dry house, basically like a tent. After the mini service project, I said something like, wow your house is camping now. And this past Sunday, BOOM they all came to church! The day before as well, we started a fund raiser where the family made something like 50 arepas and sold them to the members for a $1,50. Which is a huge profit! So now Abraham is one step closer to being able to get documents to then be able to officially marry Mariuxi!
English!
There were some transfers again, but here we stay together, but oh my goodness, Elder Tafur is really pushing hard to learn English in these last three months before he goes back to Iquitos, Perú. Some missionaries get unmotivated but he is super motivated now to do more. I too am working hard to teach better with the spirit and to teach clearer.
Spanish!
I am discovering some of the more advanced stuff in Spanish, stuff like figurative phrases and stuff. It is a miracle that people can understand what I say. Elder Tafur recorded me calling some people to remind them that they want to buy the Arepas! When we watched the video again, I could hardly understand some of the phrases I had said, but the people over the phone had no problem understanding what I said, it opened my eyes and ears about how real the gift of tongues is! It also showed me how much I have to go to speak like the people here, although sometimes I think that I am absolutely nailing Spanish, to progress I have to break bad habits an build new, better ones.
No water for a bit!
The water went out for a day and half here, people thought it would last for 3 days because the main pipe 10 miles away exploded. The morning we found out, Elder Wahlquist (companion exchange for a day) had taken a shower and I made breakfast, and went to go shower, and there was not water. But luckily I had a backup jug of tap water just in case. So we showered from a bucket for those two days. For a couple hours, the water had a bunch of dirt in it while it was turning back on.
Roping!
Elder Vite grew up on a ranch in Mexico, he knows how to take care of horses, many animals, and do this with a rope: Super cool, give it a look!
The only picture this week, (other than this cool video) was from the birthday of Luiggi Velasco, who might go on a mission, we shall see about that.
Well, talk to you all later!
¡Chao!
Elder Wilhelm

Edit: Looks like I missed some footage and photos from this week
