¡¡¡Raining Crickets!!!

January 22, 2018

Well this week started off with silence. *Chirp chirp* Wait… that isn’t silence, that is the sound of thousands of crickets!  We headed to the stake building “Orquídeas.” Inside and outside, there were so many crickets that people were saying that it was one of the seven plagues from the bible. We spent quite some time cleaning up the crickets but our efforts went to waste because they would just hop right back to where they were. We couldn’t kill them because they smell horrid when they get smashed. Here is a video of it:

But let me explain a little why there were so many crickets. There was quite a bit of rain beforehand and exactly 24 hours later, all the crickets crawl out of the ground, supposedly, and inundate areas. Samanes is mostly pavement. So we’re are good here. Where the stake center is, oh, there is a bunch of dirt for them to grow. It rained super hard for an hour and the lowest parts of Samanes were flooded up to the knee, but everywhere was covered in rain up to the ankle. We got soaked. Elder Tafur hadn’t bought an umbrella yet. So the three of us including a young man, Luis, rain to the nearest tienda and Elder Tafur got an umbrella. After we were all completely soaked. So I am so grateful for my messenger back that is waterproof! Here’s a video of the rain:

Enough about grillos (crickets), Marcelo is progressing and he came to church!!!! with his whole family!!!! He is trying to become is better man so he can put is family back together, after the separation. Because of all of this, he is going to be baptized this week. What is crazy is that our chapel has an open house slash open chapel that same day. We are going to do it at 8 in the night and the following day, he can be confirmed, during Ward Conference, which is like stake conference. Oh how busy that is going to be.

We are working really hard to get in contact with two families this week. Familia Barzola and Familia Lucin. Familia Barzola, who is getting helped by Jaime, is, many times, hard to find because they take care of sick ones of their extended family and such.

Oof. with Ligia, who got baptized last year, has had a bunch of things happen in her life, some good but many negative things. Exploding brownie pans, robbers, situations with the hopefulness of her mom getting baptized (which I think did work out :D) and whew. I have seen how strong she can be. She took a turn so rapidly for better and now I have given her some homework…

….The question I gave her, I give to all who read this. To study this question in the scriptures to find the answer. Why do bad things happen to good people? Accompanying that question, why can good things happen to bad people? Although, it is certain that these questions aren’t the most important worries of everyone, but when one is deep in the depths of depression or doubt or sorrow, these questions appear, not just once, but continually. I have it seen over and over again, in stories, with my ears, with my eyes. I testify, the answer is in the scriptures, in the teachings of Christ, and is found in the moments of silence after prayer.

I am thankful for my family. For my family there in Arizona and for my Heavenly Family, which is everyone.

With Love,

Elder Wilhelm
